Tally, I have to disag4ree on a bit about lend lease.
Ture it was called something vastly different--cahs and carry--bag and stowe, as this was before the outbreak of major hostilities. Lend lease was the "official" name to our war aid to them.
"We" had been sending them aid for years-and at US tax payers expense. This aid was in the form or raw materials--cars--medicines etc.
If I can find my grandfathers log books--I will gladly tell you what he entered into them. This will be dates ov convoy--routs taken-names of items on board his ship including number of bushels of wheat-corn-rice-to tons of grain per storage container-to barrels of fuel oil per container.
Give me time on this as these books are somewhere at my brothers home in Houston. I will be going there in February and will stop by and ask to borrow the books.
Govts never tell a citizen exactly what goes on and when and certainly not all the time. This goes on in the case of pre-war "lend lease" too
