Yes, liutenant general Mark Clark, chief of US 5th Army took Rome June 4th 1944. He knew about the D-day so he hurried his troops because he wanted the attention on him for a while. Which he would have not had if he had entered Rome after D-day. And he was not a good commander for me. He wasted his troops too much. he simply gave them to Kesselring.
