On March 20, 1944 He and Rudel landed their plane in a muddy field, after attakcing a bridge near Jampol. He wants to take aboard the crew of a Ju87 that crashlanded there. Because of the muddy field, they cannot take off again and have to swim the river Djnestr to get to their own lines. Hentschel drowns in the river.
