Are we talking about Asian-American Captain Francis B. Wai , 34th Infantry Regt, 24th Division ?

Landing on Red Beach, Leyte 0n 20/10/44 and finding a confused situation, he assumed command and led the way across rice paddies, exposing himself to Japanese fire to pinpoint enemy strongpoints to his men. In assaulting one final pillbox he was killed and was awarded a posthumous MOH.
