Maybe you mean the thing that Graf Spee noticed the mast first? In Cajus Beckerīs book they noticed the masts first and thought it might be a boat full of cargo but noticed later on that there were more ships and as they turned out to be something they might sink ( Exter, Ajax, Achilles )they decided to go for it.
