Hi Landser,
Welcome to the forums!
This is a particular interest of mine, although I'm not professionally involved. You'll find a thread called Military Archaeology elsewhere in the forum which might give you a few tips.
If you go to www.gla.ac.uk/ this takes you to the website of Glasgow University. Two Archaeology professors from there do a series called Two Men in a Trench for the BBC, which is all about battlefield archaeology.
The site will also give you an insight into the general qualifications needed to be an archaeologist.
AFAIK, you would probably need a good honours degree in Archaeological practice, and then specialise from there. Don't quote me though!
Several other members of the forum are involved in avaition archaeology-Martin Bull, Stevin Ooudinshorn and Erich, and they'll probably have more useful info to give you.

Regards,

Gordon
