It's a good idea, TA - but Sam was a navigator and I know from when I met him that he had plenty to do at the navigator's table, without worrying what his crewmates were doing....

The plate is interesting in that - as can be seen in the pix - it's definitely not a factory item.The holes are precisely drilled and measured, but the lettering has been hand-punched.

I'm guessing here but wonder if it's a field modification somehow connected with the 8th AF's changeover from individually-aimed bombing to the 'togglier' system.
