This is a great thread.
That was one of the things the german did very well under Speer- choosing factories/equipment that needed as little conversion as possible to achieve a new function. This was seen throughout german production, especially later in the war. One could also note the tendency for the germans to create a tank destroyer or artillery carrier instead of pahsing out an old tank chassis- better leave the production line going than waste the factory, equipment, and TIME to switch to all new production...
Andreas, you put it perfectly- had Speer ramped up production in 1939, with resources and manpower made available, "the possibilities are limitless"!

But Kai, the end of the war? What about the US? You wouldn't be forgetting about us, would you?
