1st Marine Division in Guadalcanal with 1st Para-Marines and the 1st Marine Raider battalion.
Outnumbered 3 to 1, with no food (thx to the USN sailing off because they saw a few Japanese planes), no heavy artillery(again, thx to the USN sailing off), No tanks, and just enough ammo. They perfected the art of water landings, jungle warfare, and turned tide of the Japanese advance onto Australia.
I would have probably loved to fly in the VMF squadrons on Guadalcanal too. At most times they had less than a dozen Wildcats to defend the island and Henderson airfield against entire groups and wings of Japanese fighters. Mostly a thrill ride I think though, but probably quite the experience (If you don't crash and burn...get malaria, starve to death, heat stroke, snipers, get eaten by a lizard.....ouch)
