Russians did some submarine by rail travel as well.

The M-type submarines were assembled in the Soviet port of Poti (Georgia), then journeyed to Baku (Azerbaijan) by the railway, afterwards tugged to the Krasnovodsk (Turkmenistan) across the Caspian, and then travelled by the railway to Severodvinsk?a Soviet port on the White Sea.
