Tallyrand, great posting but FYI, Uboats could take alot of punishment. I have a large photo of U 181 which you can see some bomb damage on its deck. This photo was taken in 1943 by 2nd Watch Officer Otto Giese.

In the forground of the photo, you can make out a huge hole in the Uboats deck plating. This was the result of being attacked by RAF Spitfires and Hurricanes.
