Sorry about that Carl. I was actually prompted to look into Martin's question, because Steve mentioned "Sudbury", which is my hometown. We're surrounded by old WWII airfields: Alpheton, Waldingfield and Lavenham to name a few.

My WWII movie knowledge is pathetic, so I'm afraid that I only have another A Bridge Too Far question.

In one scene a trooper nicknamed "Ginger" is killed by a sniper while trying to retrieve a supply cannister (containing maroon berets).

Name the actor and the long running British TV series in which he went on to play one of the main characters for the first 4 of its 20 years to date. Bonus point if you can name the character.
