Default Re: Interesting facts on the weapons of WWII

I agree, SW. Things would have been much simpler if the warring nations had lined up say 100 Shermans on one side and 100 Panthers on the other and counted what's left after the dust settled. However we were not obliged with this so operational research must work some other way.

Hawkerace, we have already spoken on that subject here a number of times. It appears the main conclusions are: the JT was way too heavy and road dependent, was a waste of resources as it spent an enourmous mount of fuel, had terrible mechanical reliability due to excess weight (trannies going to hell), and anyway only a piffling number was built, total 85 or thereabouts, whereas the much lighter for the same calibre JS-2 was limited to 250 each month.

Use the forum search feature, you will find stuff like:

Actually, the forum search (on the blue horizontal bar at the top) will always turn up with the most interesting and unexpected stuff due to the amount of learned opinion already poured on this forum. I do recommend it!
