Enjoyable article, I was intrigued by the Ground Observer Corps or 'GOC' in the states as I was briefly in the Royal Observer Corps or 'ROC' who had the same role in the UK, though by my time it was all about nuclear plotting and going down the pub. Sadly I never saw a plane or even a pair of binoculars the whole time. Lots of writing backwards though...
