Say in some time late 1944 or early 1945 Hitler was assassinated the question is this -

Who ever took over the leadership would that person see clearly the war was lost and they open up talks with the Allies and bring about an end to the war.

Or so if that person knew it was over they could use the fear factor of the Russians invading Berlin and try to save Germany from more destruction.
