Just from memory, I don't think it was a matter of tanks at Goodwood,but the mine fields and bridges that bottled up the Allied armor. The proceeding 1000 plane bombardment did a lot of the German armor in.
They still faced the 88 flak guns hidden. Limited infantry support meant the Germans could drill any tank with a panzerfaust.
