Default Re: Worst WW2 movies ever made?

U-571 is by far the WORST WWII movie in my book. Just to name a few issues....

1. S-Boats never had the range to travel into the mid-atlantic.
2. It was not an American crew nor an S-Boat that originally captured the enigma and codebooks.
3. It would be completely impossible for an American crew of only six or seven, to come aboard a German U-Boat for the first time, and somehow manage to operate and dive the boat, even with the help of a translator. Type VIIC U-Boats usually had about 50 men on board, and granted not all of them needed to be working at the same time, but a crew of seven Americans on a German sub just can't figure out how to operate a U-Boat in less than 60 seconds.
4. Even if you want to believe they could, it was completely impossible in WWII for two submerged submarines to attack each other. I almost threw up when I watched this part of the movie. There was only one recorded instance of two submarines in WWII attacking each other submerged, but they were both at periscope depth and both could see each other, unlike in U-571.
5. When the destroyer comes onto the scene, this was absolutely unrealistic. German escort vessles rarely left the safety of their harbors, and they never ventured out into the Mid-Atlantic, especially unesorted.
6. When they dive beneath the destroyer, and one of their propeller shafts is sabotaged, the American captain remarks "We'll never make it to allied aircover on one shaft." It would be impossible to make it to allied air cover on two shafts! Submerged, U-Boats generally could not travel more than 80 miles before having to recharge their batteries. If they were in the Mid Atlantic, 80 miles wouldn't bring them much closer!
7. The depth charge attacks are all wrong. Charges exploding that close to the U-Boat would have cracked the pressure hull, but they somehow magically survive.
8. The real U-571 never particpated in any of the events that the movie shows, I have no idea why they picked this boat as the one to depict.
8. This movie is just a piece of Hollywood garbage that was only made for gung-ho Americans who like to see stuff get blown up and have no concern about the historical aspects of what they are wathcing. If your looking for a genuine U-Boat film, Das Boot is defintly what youll want to see. Again, this is just a brief summary of how I feel about U-571, and although I could spend hours writing about its historical innacuracies, lets see if you guys can save me some of the trouble; any thoughts on the movie?
