My 3xG grandfather was wounded at Chicamauga, loosing his right kneecap to a Union bullet. He spent the remainder of his life farming with a leg that would not bend at the knee.
Another relative was also wounded there and was sent to Chattanooga to recuperate. His wife left home to travel up there to tend to him. Outside of Chattanooga, she drank from a well that apparently had typhoid in it. She traveled on and began to tend to him before she got sick, giving it to him and they both died, leaving 2 or 3 small children. That particular family sent 8 sons to fight for the Confederacy, loosing 2, one just days before the war ended.
