Another rescued thread....
...believe it or not, the second volume of the trilogy has
just been published and is being enthusiastically reviewed in the British press.
The book is called
' The Day Of Battle : The War In Sicily And Italy 1943-1944' ( Little, Brown ) and Raleigh Trevelyan ( who fought in tha campaign ) rates the book very highly in this months'
Literary Review. Rick Atkinson's earlier book won a Pulitzer Prize and this follow-up is depply-researched and - reportedly - unbiased. It also throws much new light on the character of the controversial Mark Clark.
I shall be buying this one.....
