I agree Adam. He was attempting to negotiate a separate peace through Count Bernadotte (sp?) of Sweden. He also released some Jews in the hopes that the allies would see that he actually was against the final solution. yeah, I can see him begging for his life if he could not negotiate (hysterically) for his life.
