Wow.... I'm coming up a crapper here....


my digging has come up with the following:

on July 4, '42 - there was a raid by 12 RAF-marked Bostons (A-20's), 6 of which were crewed by American 8th Air Force crews. The targets were 4 airfields in Holland.

on July 12, '42 - 6 RAF-marked Bostons with American 8th Air Force crews raided the airfield at Abbeville.

on August 17, '42 - 12 8th Air Force B-17's conducted the first B-17 raid of the war. The target was the Rouen marshalling yards, and the diversion was an attack/feint by 6 B-17's on the French coast.

I find no mention of a 'diversionary device' in either of my sources*.

How about a hint??
