The Schmeisser thing stuck because GIs used to call it that, even though Hugo Schmeisser wasn't the designer, but rather Erma.

Nice rifle, I had a chance at a G24(T) which was one of the Gebirgsjägers rifles also used by the SS, taken from Czech depots Brno(Vz-24) These had the straight bolt rather than the bent like on the Kar98K.
