Default unit 731 and war crimes

I was reading some info on the medical unit 731 of the Japanese army and was shocked to say the least. Now while its well known that the Japanese were horrific to the other asians, what gave me pause here was the detail. Unit 731 was well documented in its "experiments". The question i have is why there was not a push by anyone to try these doctors as war criminals. One of them (dr. ken yuasa) was captured by the chinese at the end of the war but released in 1956 (after he confessed to all his crimes). How is it that no one has attempted to prosecute such crimes. Dr. Yuasa was even quoted in a japanese paper as saying : "I was afraid during my first vivisection, but the second time around, it was much easier. By the third time, I was willing to do it." Any thoughts on why nothing was ever done?
