I watched the later half of the Dirty Dozen, starting at the Last Supper scene. I realize that is pure fiction but I had never really watched to see just how bad it was. What got my attention was the scene where they are jumping into Normandy. They throw out the equipment packs out then it is a good 5 seconds or more before someone (I think it was Reisman/Lee Marvin) stood in the door and even began to make a show of possibly exiting the aircraft. At cruising speed of 160mph for the C47, that's 237ft/sec for 5 seconds, almost 1200 feet/400 yds to the second pack the aircraft travels before the first man could exit the aircraft. The first pack would be even further away. Jump speeds for the C-47 may be slower, but still, having to hump a 1000 yards or more in the dark to find a two packs and assuming they drifted more because they weighed less, how easy would it be. After this scene I starting watching and there was just so many lame scenes and uniform problems with the Germans.
Please note, I'm
not rating this movie as the worst, there is always
Fireball Forward.
