Default Re: Reputation/Prestige System Guide

Now, here's one that might be worth persuing:

There are any number of persons that come here looking for real "experts" to help them with stuff their relatives left behind, that they have aquired, or on school work they are doing. I think it might actually be worthwhile to have some sort of general system to identify board members expertise for such persons (as well as feed the egos of those so inclined to need such nurishment.).
I would suggest that members with say, at least 200 posts could petition via a poll for the moderators who would have a final say to have several categories of "expertise" added on their title block next to their names (there is plenty of blank space there now) showing that so-and-so is an expert on the SS or aircraft characteristics or TO&E etc.
I realize that this would be largely ancedotal and self-reported but at least it would give a point of reference for users to start asking for help from. If it became obvious that someone exaggerated badly the moderators could easily strip the listing from someone as they had ulitmate control.

I have an article published years ago on this about wargames clubs that suggested that there were basically three types of people in the "tribe" so-to-speak. The tribesmen, gognards and magi. Tribesmen were the rank and file. They knew little and sided with their particular gognard who knew enough about whatever period was the club's basis to be a credible source of information and game play. Gognards also competed for position based on their ability to win various wargames. The Magi were like Gods. These rarified few were the ones that were experts within the group. Their world was like tablets handed down to Moses. Occasionally, a Gognard might challenge a Magi but usually this resulted in humiliating defeat. A successful Gognard might be elevated to Magi status. Magi disgraced would typically disappear (eg., migrate to other groups). Magi, who rarely played a game with Gognards and never with Tirbesmen, and sometimes were challenged by other Magi, would when challenged pull out all stops to retain their exhaulted position.
I bet if you look you see some of this right here on the board itself!
Well, you might as well codify it into the structure so everyone knows where they stand. It will solidify the "tribe."
