Re: Reputation/Prestige System Guide
Dear Otto
Way back on this thread you said "I'm not exactly sure why no one has respoded to this post, not that anyone has to. All are welcome to respond to this post if you like... "
I hope that I am not being "mealy mouthed" by making what might be considered an adverse comment with regard to the whole system of awarding "reputation" points.
On using the "UserCP" option I can easily see that various over generous members have made comment on the odd posting that I have made and it set me wondering why I hadn't reciprocated in the same manner with regard to other members articles.
The answer was not hard to find.... I realised that I have always tried to make a point of responding positively to postings that I consider have raised valid arguments and, at the same time, I have always thanked the writer involved.
This "thankyou" has therefore been made publicly and lets no one be in doubt as to my views on the subject.
This public exchange of views is the very essence of all forums and I honestly believe that the "reputation" system detracts rather than adds to the value of the site by removing comment from the thread itself.
Having said all that I still give you (publicly, you note !) 100 marks out of 100 both for your enthusiasm and efforts in making this (with the help of your team) the bloody fine website that it is.
Regards
Ron
