This isn't correct. Hop has summed it up fairly well - and as for Northern RAF squadrons engaging Luftwaffe bombers, don't forget the disastrous ( and only ) daylight attack on Northern England by
Luftflotte 5. This occurred on Thursday 15th August ( weeks before the attack on London ), and even German figures admit to a 20% loss-rate.
