Got to wade in here to say that arguably the Moisin Nagant was the equal of it's allied counterparts, what it laced in finess it made up for in ease of use and robustness (a friend of mine was having problems with his wartime MN, he was informed they were due to him keeping it too clean).

Incidentally, regarding the AK being a rip off of the MP44 family, again not exactly the case. The mechanism is rather different they just happen to look similar, it was the principle of a rifle firing a short cartridge that was ground breaking and incorporated into the AK.
