I rather like the film and if it were available on DVD or video would buy it. For some reason, it hardly ever gets shown on UK TV - I must have last seen it about 15 years ago.
It is certainly not an 'epic' movie - it is small-scale, and could almost be based on a stage-play ( I think that there are only about four or five characters in the film ). It's not so much an 'action' movie as a study of the characters differing motivations and attitudes to war. David Hemmings and Tom Bell give excellent performances and I remember being disappointed by the final scene which seemed to me too overblown and overtly 'anti-war'.
I wouldn't go so far as to call it a classic, but it's most certainly woefully overlooked and if you get a chance to see it - then do so.....
