I would also say if you can get your hands on some of the old paper wargames like those put out by Strategy and Tactics Magazine or Avalon Hill do so. They are far better learning aids than computer games. You learn the actual mechanics behind what works and doesn't. Plus you can "see" the history better when you compare things to a book. Sometimes a slower pace is a better learning tool.
