Canadian military tombstones are engraved with the maple leaf. Then below there may be religious or regimental insignia, as well as more information about the soldier.

The interesting thing is that the maple leaf was originally an unofficial emblem that came to be the most significant.

My Dad's grave marker in Soldiers Field here also has the same type of engraving, although instead of the uprights they went to the pillow style in an attempt to forestall the vandalization that had occurred in many cemetaries in the late 20th century.
