Good point Stefan,
I was somewhat surprised too, given the huge war machine that America had set up. I read in one of George Kaskimaki's books that they tried not to use the small arms of the enemy, because it gave off a distinct sound. Hearing that sound they would think it was the enemy near them, and shoot!
