HI J.C. I think you correct in your assumption about personal taste. I can't say anything for definate but, I think the foreign awards were mainly worn for official occasions and or if the soldier in question was a liason officer of sorts attached to an allies staff, or if he was posted to a post in a foreign allies Country as some sort of an Military Advisor?? Being no awards expert that I am not, I think the wearings of foreign awards were done so only on the day that award was given to the soldier-and then thereafter, on only official occasions. I can't think of any other reasons either way.

One case in point I can think of is when Sergeant Alvin C. York was awarded his foreign decorations including a Croix de Guerre etc. I have only seen a few pics of him weariing his awards (after he was awarded the Medal of Honor) and in those pics-he only wore his American decorations.

Best regards--C.
