Russia Jewish organization says Jews never cooperated with Ukrainiannationalists in WWII

MOSCOW. April 16 (Interfax) - The Federation of Jewish Communitiesof Russia (FJCR) has dismissed allegations that Jews actively cooperatedwith Ukrainian nationalist groups during WWII as a politically tingedmyth. "There is clear confidence among the Holocaust scholars that Jewshad never voluntarily been members of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army.Attempts to unearth such 'facts' have been made for half a century anddo not look as sensation to historians because they do not reflectreality," FJCR spokesman Boruh Gorin told Interfax in comments on actingUkrainian Security Service chief Valentyn Nalyvaichenko's statement tothe effect that the Security Service had declassified documents provingthat the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) cooperated withJews during WWII and during the Soviets' reign. Gorin acknowledged that Ukrainian nationalists were the best knownfighters for Ukraine's independence in the 1940s, "and this is a veryconvenient example of fighters against Soviet 'occupation' for theofficial propaganda." "It would have been fine if the fighters of these squads had notbesmeared themselves with involvement in the extermination ofnoncombatants, primarily Jews, which is an unquestioning crime in theeyes of Western public opinion," he said.
