FSB regrets distortion of WWII history in Russian documentaries
MOSCOW. April 22 (Interfax) - The Russian Federal Security Service(FSB) regrets that attempts to distort the history of the Soviet Union's war against Nazi Germany as part of WWII have been increasing of late,despite the fact that many archives of that time are open to researchers. "Most of what we see on screen these days is in fact pure falsification. With rare exceptions, there is no serious research in thedocumentary field these days," FSB spokesman Sergei Ignatchenko said at a roundtable conference at the FSB Culture Center in Moscow on Tuesday that dealt with the problem of publication of archive sources dealing with WWII and attempts to distort historical facts. "What is striking is that, while you know the program that our Western opponents are pursuing to falsify history, and money is even allotted for that purpose. It turns out that our film producers in fact play into the enemy's hands," Ignatchenko said.
