First thing: how can you expect anything good when you hire the guy that LOST?

Also, cheesy? Nothing cheesier in a war movie than a bunch of M-47s each carrying a placard saying "I'm a Tiger" all slowly advancing bunched up through the Sierra de Guadarrama. Awful!
[[[What could you expect? all or most German stuff was either, destroyed, in the process of rotting somewhere, in private collections and museums and finally, used as static defence mechanisms along the borders of what? Hungary, Rumania or somewhere? i.e. those many many tanks and assault guns that were recently rediscovered and are now in the process of being sold to collectors and museums and the like.
Also, what could one expect? they used Spanish Army equipment for the movie, as well as the ones who were singing Der Panzerleid-in zat famous scene. ]]]]
Oh, the Shermans are depicted by M-24s, fercripessakes!

In other words: he botched it. Might as well have stayed in retirement.

The movie was merly a fictionalized account based on few facts, about the Battle of the Bulge. Also, you should enjoy it even if only because of the great actors who were in this movie.
