The only substantial ex-military aspect was probably the Originals. The organisation and it's affiliates (& enemies), has morphed into something altogether 'different' since then, though the clannishness and self-defined rank system certainly has parallels with military structures
Interesting group covering a huge spectrum of different types. Frightening in some ways, even in friendship, but definitely always to be approached somewhat circumspectly if you're not one of the tribe, and with the utmost respect for their own peculiar customs. Many sound men and women to be encountered... but I wouldn't want to cross a single one of 'em, or even recommend approaching with a chirpy 'hello' and no introduction
