Wow Jeff, I'm not sure. It is a confused looking ship as Tom pointed out. The hull looks to me like It could be the Wyoming class battleship. Though the pic I just looked at had a different mast than your pick the USS Wyoming did convert her 12" guns to 5"/38's late in 44 and was also used as a gunnery training ship which fits your descriptions so that is my guess.
