Hello
I was thrilled to find this site referenced in the current issue of World War II Magazine. I have been a student of World War II since I first saw the Audie Murphy Story when I was about 5 years old. Since then, I have read up on World War II as much as my life has allowed. I am really looking forward to the first hand accounts that veterans can offer in these forums.
Although I was born in 1966, I have heard many stories of the War first hand from my parents. My Mother was born on the British island of Guernsey and evacuated to London the night before Germany occupied her home island. She then lived through the Blitz in London and was ultimately evacuated again to Yorkshire. Her father flew with the RAF.
My father joined the Navy in 1944 but he was not inducted until he had graduated from High School in 1945, by which time the war was all but over. Still, even today, he remains steadfast that neither he nor his friends thought twice about enlisting. In his words, "It was never a question of if we would enlist, only a question of when our parents would let us go."
Thanks to all of our veterans and God Bless Them.
Cheers!
