Hi all: Room for an 82-year-old WWII infantryman?
I'm Bill Barber---- born in Waltham, Mass., raised in Newton, Mass...now retired in Lumberton NJ. Came across this site a couple of days ago and, as a former platoon sergeant (T/Sgt.) with the 25th Infantry Division who fought in the Caraballo Mountains on Luzon in the Philippines in 1945, and thought I'd like to join you fellers and look forward to "talking" with you.
I'm a retired sports editor who enjoys golf and especially modeling ships, planes and armored vehicles of World War II. The more complicated, the better.
God has seen fit to bless me with good health. I am one of five brothers and sisters, all living and healthy except for my deceased older brother Bob, who was a navigator on B-17s, B-25s and B-24s in WW II. My younger brother Fred was with the 1st Cavalry Division at the tail end of the war.
I'm married for the second time (my first wife Katie, passed away from cancer in 1985) to another great lady and have a 40-year old son Bill Jr., who is very much up on WW II
I know I'm a Newbie to you guys but if anyone has any particular questions about WW II in the Pacific Theater, I'll be happy to try to answer as best I can.
Dunno what more to say....just looking forward to "meeting" you all....Most of us WW II guys are checking out pretty rapidly...but I've decided to stay!
