Re: For Scott, Jeff, Wtid45 and others who like Westerns.
Hi Jason, yup, they both were funny and I wish that they both made more comedies.
By the way, about Jack Elam, just watch him in Rio Lobo=as Tuscaroras Father. He was a hoot in that Duke movie. Also, he appeared with Duke at least once more-and years before-in the movie: The Comancheros.
Oh and-for two more Westerns that Jack Elam was very good in-try watching both: Support Your Local Sheriff & Support Your Local GUnfighter. Both of these movies starred James Garner w/ Jack Elam as his sidekick. Chuck Connors was in one of these movies (I forget which?) as "the bad guy" and somehow he finds out that either Garner or Elam, had been mistaken for him and had been "living it up" posing as him. The Chuck Connors character was coming to town so he could just see who was aping him and he was going to gun him down. However, during one of the many TnT blasts going on, he had been walking down a street and wound up shooting himself in the foot.
Anyway, that movie is basically a remake of the Gary Cooper classic: Along Came Jones. Not to get too terribly off topic but, Gary Cooper was Jones in that movie. The Jones character, was supposed to be Dan Duryea-who was the baddie in that movie. End result, all three of those movies are hilariously funny.
One more "Off Topic" before I close.
OK, most Duke fans know that Walter Brennan played Stumpy in the John Wayne movie:Rio Bravo. OK, my question is this, who do you think might have been the best Stumpy? Walter Brennan or Jack Elam? This is based on Jack Elam's characterns in Rio Lobo and both of the James Garner movies mentioned above. ;-)) This would be one heck of a hard choice for me to make-as I think that Jack Elam too, would have made one hell of a good Stumpy.
