Without a detonator it was not likely to eplode though, I suspect it was actually empty but then the article wouldn't have been so "interesting". I mean why on earth would someone bother to take risks and defuse such a grenade and then leave some powder in it and throw it away? I think someone just found it , did not know if it was dangerous or not and got rid of it (which by the way was a stupid thing to do)
