You might find this intersting. A brief article on the kriegsmarine web-site about a discovery of an intact Seehund midget submarine.
Information can be found at www.kriegsmarine.net/seehund.htm

enjoy !

Exclamation

Oh they already found it, and raised it. The Discovery channel and PBS had specials about it. The other night, the Discovery channel had an hour long special about the CSS Hunleys raising, but I was very tired and fell asleep just before the program came on.

Oh well, I suppose they will rerun it soon

Cartl, I wonder if it would be covered on the History channel somewhere in the near future ? I know they kinda do the round robin thing and repeat every 3 or 4 months the same showing......

I sure hope so. I hate missing an event like that one.

I believe that Nova, the Discovery Channel and the Learning Channel, all has something on the CSS Hunley. I havent seen anything on its raising on the History Channel--yet.

I know that the History Channel has shown several things similar to the Hunley deal, and they are usually with Dr Robert Ballard (the person who foung the Titanic, Bismarck, Yorktown-etc etc).

PBS, also gets some other great things in from time to time. The last great thing I watched, was when some team found a sunken U-Boat. This U-boat was supposed to have been sunk a few thousand miles away from there, and was reported by the Kriegsmarine, as having been sunk somewhere nearer to Europe or Africa.

Well it took this team a few years, and the loss of two lives, to get positive proof, of whisch U-Boat it was and had found an enameled metal plate from a mechanics toolbos with the U-boat number on it.

((When I had seen this show, I was just fresh back from my month in Germany))

Well, after these men got their proof, they visited Horst Bredow, at his archiv in Altenbruch, and presented this evidence. Knowing Horst like I do, I had to just grin watching him pouring over official documents and other info, and he was and had to be very sceptable about this find.

For about 55+ years, this U-boat had been listed as missing and presumed sunk-elsewhere. Try as the Amis might, they had a terrible time in convincing Horst, but finally managed to do so. Then is was believed that there were no survivors of that U-boat.

When this program was broadcast on DDF or other German TV, a man called to inquire more about this matter, and it turns out that he is the sole survivor of that U-boat. Horst is the only one from him U-boat also. In virginia, a u-boat crewmans relative was found there, and it cleared up a mystery. It turned out that this persone father died on that u-boat-he had been an engineer/mechanic, and had carved his name into the wooden handle of a kitchen knife that he had "liberated".

Horst forund his name, but only as him having served on another u-boat that was also sunk. It turned out that it was indeed, this persons father, as there was only one man with that exact name as being in the Kriegsmarine. Horst had been bested by the Amis, two times in one evening.

The items that were brought to Germany from this u-boat, are now on display in the archiv. When I was there, I did see the box tag, and did get to handle the knife.

Sorry I left the subject, BOY did I leave the subject.
