Gentlemen good morning-lets strip away some of the hype and examine the role of the Kreigsmarine and the Ubootwaffe(the "waffen" arm of the Navy) in the Third Reich. We are all familiar with the quote attributed to AH on his forces("reactionary Army.....ect ect"). All tho the Navy did not perform the grim tasks of the SS in the East, may not mean they did not accept the ideology of the Nazis. Or if they didn't absorb the ideology of the Nazis to a great extent, did the failures of the Imperial Navy in the Great war require them to prove their loyality through unyielding sacrifice? Your thoughts please.

The Kriegsmarine might have been the most loyal to Hitler (after the SS) force in the Wehrmacht. Even if all its men had severely forbidden to belong to any political party (the onlyone was NSDAP, so...) and even do the nazi salute... They stayed out of trouble and carried out their duty in a very independent way, fortunately.
