I dont know but, either Helmut Weitze, Peter von Lukacs or Carsten Baldes has a cap tally for sale from this ship if your interested in it. Also one for Lebracht Maas is for sale on one of these sites as well.

Thanks Erich-but why was it scuttled, what damage had been done to it?

The Z2 was lost when attacked by the light cruisers Arethusa and the Undaunted and 4 other destroyers on October 17th. Also German losses included several torpedo boats.

Carl, do you stil have a pic of the Ost-Baltic Commander Thiele ?

Just interested...

April 10, 1940-The Georg Thiele and Z11 Bernd Von Arnim engage 5 British destroyers, disabling two before being driven off. During the attack, Georg Thiele received seven hits before leaving. The destroyer anchored briefly to control fires before returning to Narvik.

April 13, 1940-The Georg Thiele runs aground after expending all ammunition in the Second Battle of Narvik. British ships fired on the destroyer, and the stern broke off, while the keel can still be seen aground today
-------

Apr 10, 1940: First battle of Narvik. Hit seven times. Z2 was laying in a side fjord with von Arnim. After the British destroyers shot up Narvik harbor inflicting serious damage on the five destroyers anchored there, they withdrew west up the fjord, pursued by Zenker, Koelner and Giese. Z2 and von Arnim appeared on the British flank. Z2 was the most effective KMS vessel in this action. She hit the RN flag, Hardy, from 4,000 yards with her fourth salvo and repeatedly thereafter. She scored hits on Hunter and may have also put a torpedo into her. Hunter and Hardy were sunk in this action largely by Z2. She also damaged Hotspur, causing her to collide with Hunter.. Z2 was hit in the boiler, #1 gun was destroyed and her fire control room was also put out of action

Apr 13, 1940: Z2 was semi-operational for the 2nd Battle of Narvik. She was capable of 27 knots, briefly, four of her main guns were available under local control and she carried six torpedoes. She was engaged in the closing portion of the battle when the four surviving German destroyers withdrew up Rombakisfjord. She acted as the rearguard to give the other three ships the opportunity to land their crews before scuttling. Eskimo and Forester hit her repeatedly with 4.7" shells, but Z2 obtained some measure of revenge when she put her last torpedo into Eskimo and blew off her bow past the #1 gun mounting. She then ran herself hard aground. Her wreak was broken up in 1963.
