Lightbulb video of deep sea expedition of the battleship Bismarck

Hey Everybody,

I was doing some research on the Bismarck over the internet and I came across a program by James Cameron (director from the movie Titanic)

He is also is an avid deep sea researcher on famous sunken ships. He grew interested on the mysteries behind the sinking of the Bismarck.

With the help of a Russian deep sea expedition team, and survivors of the Bismarck, they emerged apx. 15,700 ft into the depths of the Altantic and located the ship..

Incredible discoveries were captured. Like part of the huge swastika that was painted on the ship's deck is still visable after spending over 60 years under the sea. An eerie image of a soldier's boot is discovered near the ship.

The expedition provided some clues as to what really caused the sinking of the bismarck.

the program is called Expedition Bismarck and is available on You Tube.

Excellent program and it is a must see.

It is quite long, close to an hour and a half, but well worth your time, That is guarteed!

so get confortable and crack open some snacks...

Seen it on one of the documentary channels.

There was another british expedition went out shortly afterwards to examine the bismarks wounds and they came back with the conclusion that the bismarck was sunk by enemy fire.

So cameron went out again with his own experts and they came back with the conclusion that it was impossible for the wounds inflicted to have sunk the bismarck,
I think cameron is the guy who found the titanic.

I did see the british expedition version.. Which got me interested in the subject..but I enjoyed the James camron documentary more.

James Camron believes that Bismarck sank intself by detonating bombs in the ship which caused it's sinking...

If they wanted to destroy the ship before the enemy did why didn't the captain inform his entire crew to abandon ship in order to possibly save some lives.. Those soldiers never had a chance. I think only a few hundred survived, out of thousands..

Wouldn't it be more honorable to die by enemy fire than by one's own hand??

Firstly, it was Robert Ballard that found the Titanic AND the Bismarck. His original film captured the images of the deck markings and the boot you mentioned.

In Burkard Baron Von Mullenheim-Rechberg's book about his life on the Bismarck, he confirms that communications through out the ship had broken down from shelling, and every order was being passed by word of mouth at the end. A great many sailors never got the word, or those carrying the word were killed.

A junior officer was sent with orders to set off the scuttling charges, to blow out the bottom of the ship.

The scuttling v sunk debate is a non-event. The British sank the ship because they forced the Germans to scuttle her.
