Last known Australian known to have fought in ww1s Gallipoli Campaign, passed away Thursday at age 103.

Alex Campbell lied about his age to enlist at age 16 and was known as "The Kid". He spent a month fighting in the brutal campaign in Turkey at the end of 1915. He passed away in Tasmania in a retirement home.

Alex Campbell was also the last of the ORIGINAL ANZACS and the last living link to that ANZAC tradition.

He was not only known as the last Australian but as the last person worldwide who served in that particular campaigh. He had arrived there in November 1915 and was evacuated in the "Great Evacuation" in December 20th 1915.

He didnt like to talk about his experiances there very much but did say: "I remember the constant hail of bullets and remember that people were continously being hit".

He will be missed by all.

Carl, thanks for sharing a little bit for a fine gentleman......would of loved to have had the pleasure to chat with him. Sorry to hear that no memories in written form were kept. We all "younger kids" could of learned from what he had experienced.

Salute !

Thanks and I agree with all of you. He was the last of the originals and THE last man alive that fought in that particular terrible campaign.

As the most beloved General of all-time Robert E. Lee said just before he passed away: "Strike The Tents"

We must be on the same wavelength-Alec Campbell was our last remnant of the Gallipoli campaign.
Let us never forget them...
