I have seen a document signed by the General Officer commanding 53rd Welsh Division on 23rd July 1944. Unfortunately, the signature is illegible. Can anyone tell me whom this gentleman was?

According to the Official History ( ' Victory In The West ' , Ellis, HMSO 1962 ) this would have been Major-General R. K. Ross.

Brig C.N.Barclay's The History of the 53rd (Welsh) Division in the Second World War (William Clowes 1956) confirms that the divisional commander from September 1942 until the end of the war was:

Major-General R.K.Ross CB DSO MC
