Cool

Sorry, I didn't know whether to put this here or the information request section but as we've covered B of Bulge so many times here I reckon this it the right place.

I'm booked on the early flight to Brussels on the 31st of Jan so I'm doing a collection of places to go and see and also some facts on the surrounding cities of Bastogne in particular.

I figure I'd have all the info on the city itself when I get there but what can you all tell me about the battles for the towns around Bastogne, which ones are best places to visit?

Unhappy

Great stuff, Bratwurst - rather than drone on for pages, I'll make just two recommendations ; -

First, browse through : -

http://bulge.free.fr/

And then BUY a copy of William C C Cavanagh's 'A Tour Of The Bulge Battlefield' ( ISBN 0 85052 834 - 8 ), still available from Amazon UK for about ten pounds.

This book isn't perfect, but it's inexpensive, authoritative and will help you get much more from your trip. It will also take you straight to the original foxholes occupied by 2nd Battalion, 56th PIR - the 'Band Of Brothers'.

Wow, thanks sommecourt, I'll have to add La Gleize to my ever increasing list...so far Bastogne may even be an afterthought with so many towns surrounding it bearing the actual Panzer attacks.

The places marked in red are the places we're going to try visit. It was at these towns that the main thrusts of the attacks occured I believe. 2nd Panzer division from the north Via Noville, Panzer Lehr from Mareret, and an attack from the south via Assenois by Abram's 37th battalion on Christmas Day resulted in house to house fighting in that town.

p.s.

We got an opening in our party for one more person...who wants to come? It'll cost around £70 for your whole trip, not including food which will be supermarket stuff only.
