Re: Combat Mission Tournament
Ike played great in the first game, but I must say I shot myself in the foot when I surrendered. I gave a way a lot of points that could have helped me in the final outcome. In any case Ike is a very solid player a could very well take the whole tournament and I hope he does, so at least I can say I lost a close battle against the champion!

Re: Combat Mission Tournament
Interesting game for me, as I have never done PBEM before.
Well done to Musso and good luck for the next round!

Re: Combat Mission Tournament
That was a close game that could have gone either way. The second round was the most dramatic. I do think the Russians were at a disadvantage but then again, I never played them so it was a new experience. The was also my first time PBEM. Great tourney!

Re: Combat Mission Tournament
It looks as though the Peppy will also go through to the next round. He played a great game, and employed an interesting tactic, and I hope he gives the next player as much grief as he gave me.
I have surrendered in one game after an utter defeat with literally almost no one left, while the other is approaching the same conclusion.

Re: Combat Mission Tournament
As the Germans, Somme had me worried since my forces defending the main flag were running out of ammo. I was expecting a large final push from his forces, but thankfully that never materialized since I don't think I would have been able to hold out.
In both instances, my Snipers could have kissed some of his troops but amazingly went unnoticed. The Final View of the Map reveals that my German Sniper was about 2M away from an HQ unit of his! Either way, he effectively 'disabled' my snipers from doing anything!

Here is a piece of advice to all active players: do not surrender! Let your opponent try to kill off all your troops and make it hard by scattering. Surrendering just hands points to your opponent.

Joe has been trying to get me to surrender as my Russians are getting beat badly.
He has the upper hand overall. The only chance I have of squeeking out a victory is to survive the brutality, and not listen to Joe.

Re: Combat Mission Tournament
I would never listen to Joe. He doesn't know what he is doing half the time. Its pure luck. Or maybe its the British natural ability to command troops to kill But yeah, don't surrender! Use gorilla tactics! Hide!

Re: Combat Mission Tournament
Peppy has done it, completely wiping the floor with my entire force. with in one game a wopping 97 - 3% victory.
My basic strategy was to put around 70% of my troops aimed at the centre hill and a platoon on a defensive stance just out of reach of the road flags. Early on in the game everything went well, with me managing to reach the flag without too much trouble. But within one movie turn, I lost 3 squads to the enemy. Moving more troops into the area and surrounding the hill I quickly realised peppy's strategy. Full and utter control of the hill. He placed all his units onto the main flag and prepared for an attack from me, a very surprising, well executed and punishing plan. My line attacking lines were quickly torn apart, and with a few turns my forces were in complete utter rout.
Playing to the strengths of the map, Peppy chose a gutsy move which payed of amazingly, with his force taking on only a few platoons at a time.
Well done Peppy, and lets hope you have a better match and not such a cake walk through the rest of the tournament.
As for me, I hold my head in shame with my worst defeat ever, in this game, and hope it will never be relived. Had I really been in the army, I would have been quickly relingishued of my command and maybe even court marshalled, so lucky for me I'm not.
I am at least still in the 'losers' section and ready to take on one of the other 'losers' lol.

Re: Combat Mission Tournament
We've still got to get Joe vs Paul's results in. Its impossible for Peppy to draw me next round though (woot woot) so i'll either get Ike or the winner of Joe vs Paul. Thats a relief!

Do we know how the last match is going?
Perhaps we can get an update from the players?

Re: Combat Mission Tournament
Paul used some detective work and solved the hang up we were having, so now we should be able to proceed. Prelimanary viewing for Round 2 shows the following:
Peppy vs Ike
Musso vs Paul
(PIMP for short)

Tomcat is a very good player, i just took advantage of some of the weaker features of the map and managed to get a large advantage early. I'd like to say there was some skill or strategy involved, but my victory was more a feature of a weak map than a weak opponent. I'm playing Tomcat in another non-tournament battle and he is putting very strong pressure on me from several directions, and despite getting a much better draw in the random map I am having to take extra care to avoid severe losses. I'm looking forward to playing round two against Ike, as anyone who beats Otto is tough challenge.
Peppy >>> is ready for another round

Re: Combat Mission Tournament
Just an FYI, going to double check the Round 2 Map (Trollville) and then give the go ahead (wait for my PM) to start Round 2! Sorry for the delay, things have been hectic on my end recently (layoffs and the like) but I want to see this tournament through to the end!

I more than a day late, but I'm here Ike, I'll send an email in a few minutes. I assume the tournament has stalled across the board? If so, I'll email everyone and get them going again.
